Based in Kiyomizu, Kyoto, and the fourth to bear the registered name of Soryu Wakunami. In the world of Japanese pottery, the name of an artist (once the mastery is achieved and its name is publicized as a registered artisan) becomes rather a title, which is passed on to the next generation’s artist who is recognized having achieved the mastery of the art by the current title bearer.
The art of Soryu Wakunami is mainly expressed in celadon porcelain works, the secretive art of blending celadon glaze using an assortment of natural coloring material, and is significantly special about his pieces. Soryu Wakunami IV
